Day 2: The Downward Path of Disobedience

Nov 25, 2025    Pastor Bill Gehm

Devotional:

Notice the progression: Jonah went "down" to Joppa, went "down" into the ship, went "down" to the lowest part of the vessel, and eventually went down into the sea and the belly of the fish. Disobedience always takes us lower than we intended to go. What begins as a small compromise becomes a downward spiral that affects not only us but everyone around us.

The mariners—innocent bystanders—found themselves in a life-threatening storm because of one man's rebellion. Our disobedience is never private; it creates storms in the lives of those closest to us. Meanwhile, Jonah slept, physically and spiritually unconscious to the chaos his choices created.

Are you spiritually asleep while storms rage around you? The path of disobedience promises freedom but delivers bondage. It promises peace but brings turmoil.

Reflection Question: What "downward" patterns do you notice in your life when you drift from God's presence?

Application: Identify one relationship that may be suffering because of your spiritual condition. Reach out today with honesty and humility.
